Hints are helper elements, which are added to existing activities to provide helpful hints to learners.
Hint elements contain a hint popup element.
A hint element can be added to the following elements:
- Multiple choice, by selecting a multiple choice element and using Multiple Choice > Add Hint.
- Drag drop, by selecting a drag drop element and using Drag Drop > Add Hint.
- Fill blank, by selecting a fill blank element and using Fill Blank > Add Hint.
- Sort, by selecting a sort element and using Sort > Add Hint.
- Matching, by selecting a matching element and using Matching > Add Hint.

Hint Event | Select | mouse over – The hint popup is shown when the mouse is over the hint button, and hidden when it leaves. click – The hint popup is shown/hidden when the hint button is pressed. |
Score Decrease | Unit | The factor (in percent) by which to decrease the learner’s score for the activity, once they view the hint. A value of 0 means the score will not be decreased. |
Show Once | Checkbox | When on, hides the hint button after the hint popup is hidden for the first time. |

Show Button | Select | effect – Use an effect (if defined) when showing the hint button and hint popup. The hint button doesn’t use an effect if <Available After> is 0. plain – Show the hint button and hint popup without any effects. |

A hint popup is a generic element, available for edit when the hint button associated with it is selected. The hint popup is shown according to the hint <Hint Event>, and should contain any helpful hint to help the learner solve the question at hand. Additional hint popups can be added to an existing hint, using Get a Hint > Add Popup.
